Night of 19 to 20 July
The concept of screening cartoons and video art on drawn bridges was originally thought of and developed by the artist Svetlana Petrova and the “Multivision” crew. The screenings take place since 2007. The audience in Saint-Petersburg has come to love this unusual cultural undertaking, and now Amsterdam, where there are also some drawbridges, will be added as a destination for the event. There are a lot of similarities in the structure of two cities: the abundance of rivers and canals and beautiful bridges over them. Beautiful drawbridges in the central historic part of the city is an architectural feature of a St. Petersburg and Amsterdam. This is a quite rare phenomenon in the world architecture, which can be found, perhaps, only in St. Petersburg and Amsterdam.
The theme of wild life in the city will be concretised in the “Cats and the city” animated viral shorts competition. Cats became heroes of Internet that is the main media of communication in the modern urban civilization. For metropolis inhabitants petting a cat is the only chance to enjoy the nature. People living in Amsterdam and St.Petersburg both love cats: both cities are famous for their museum cats: The Hermitage cats in Russia; and Kattenkabinet in the Netherlands, so this small as a cat 15 min. very human & cute film program will make people of both cities closer.
